About Hampton NJ
Hampton, New Jersey, located in Hunterdon County, was originally incorporated as Junction Borough in 1895 and renamed Hampton in 1909. The town developed in the 19th century as a transportation hub due to its position at the junction of two major railroads, the Central Railroad of New Jersey and the Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Railroad. During its early years, the borough featured a hotel, grist mill, shops, and a cabinet maker, serving as a small but active community. Today, Hampton maintains its historical charm with landmarks like the Musconetcong Valley Presbyterian Church and St. Ann’s Catholic Church, both dating back to the 1800s. Outdoor enthusiasts enjoy its proximity to natural areas such as the Musconetcong River and nearby parks. An unusual historical note is the reported burial of occultist Aleister Crowley’s cremated remains in the area by a follower. While not widely known for producing famous individuals, Hampton is steeped in railroad history and small-town character.
