About Washington NJ
Washington Borough, nestled in the rolling foothills of Warren County, New Jersey, was incorporated on February 20, 1868, from the larger Washington Township and named in honor of George Washington. Its growth in the 19th century was spurred by its position along the Morris Canal and two railroads, making it a bustling hub of commerce and transportation. The borough became known for musical-instrument manufacturing—especially organs—and many Victorian-era mansions and historic structures date from this prosperous period.
